Inzeráty v ceně kolem $100 mají odezvu v podobě 4-5 tisíc odpovědí měsíčně a navíc pracovníkům misie umožňují odpovídat individuálně na každý došlý dopis. Inzeráty mají jednoduchý obsah – popisují Boží plán spasení nebo kladou otázky jako: „Jste osamělý? Máme pro Vás přítele, který Vás neopustí nikdy.“ Podle webové stránky AMG je novinová misie efektivní „protože přichází do domácností hinduistů, muslimů, buddhistů a jiných lidí, kteří nikdy neměli možnost mluvit s křesťanem nebo se křesťanům, kteří jim zkřížili cestu, vyhýbají.“ (Mission Network News/ AMG International)

KENYAN GIRLS MARRY YOUNG BECAUSE OF DROUGHT, POVERTY

Children in Kenya are quitting school and young girls are entering early, unwanted marriages as a result of drought-caused poverty, reports World Vision relief staff in that country. Field Officer Abraham Losinyen said, "Many families have to marry off their young daughters to people who can give them food. It's a trend that will likely increase as long as the crisis becomes bigger and bigger." Kenyan mother Ruth Nthambi’s family already shows signs of malnutrition and poverty, which prevents the children from attending school. Nthambi admitted the temptation to send her 10-year-old daughter, Kathina, to Nairobi to work or find a husband. Kathina aspires to continue school and become a teacher. Nthambi, who previously sent off her older daughter three years ago during rough times, says "I am not happy, but there's nothing I can do about it." About 14 million people are suffering from hunger in East Africa , chiefly due to drought. World Vision is conducting extensive relief operations throughout the region. (Evangelical News)

RADIO REACHES DEEP INTO FLOOD-RAVISHED SURINAM

Recent floods beginning with torrential rains during the week of May 8 have affected thousands of Aukan villagers along Surinam’s Tapanahoni River. United Nations estimates claim 22,000 people displaced and an additional 15,000 severely affected. The Surinamese government is calling the flood an "unprecedented" crisis. In the midst of the disaster, International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries, Charles and Brittany Shirley and their radio station, Radio Paakati, expanded their normal Bible story ministry to include news and announcements to the nearby Aukan people, aid delivery coordination, interviews with aid organizations and flood survival health tips. Radio Paakati reaches the Aukans deep in the jungle where other means of communications fail to reach. IMB’s role doesn’t stop with radio. The group is also distributing food and supplies to airstrips near the flood-ravished areas. (Baptist Press)

ACAPELLA TEAMS WITH COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL IN ECUADOR

The award-winning Christian singing group, Acappella, recently traveled to Ecuador, South America, meeting hundreds of children assisted by Compassion International. The five new members of the group visited local church partners in Guayaquil and Otavalo. Group member Allen Brantley stated, "Even though there are language and cultural barriers, the love language of God lives in the heart of every man and woman. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to work alongside Compassion International and help change the world one child at a time." Along with a busy U.S. touring schedule introducing their newest CD, Radiance, the group has traveled to Jamaica, Guyana and Japan in the last few months. Acappella is one of more than 100 Christian musicians speaking out for those suffering from poverty as a part of Compassion International's Music Program. (Assist News Service)

GOSPEL NEWSPAPER ADS – A COST-EFFECTIVE MINISTRY

Gospel advertisements in secular newspapers have become a cost-effective ministry for AMG International. The ads, often costing around $100, average between 4,000 to 5,000 responses per month, leaving staff challenged to respond individually to all the letters they receive. The ads simply present the plan of salvation or grab attention with a question like, "Are you lonely? Let us tell you about a friend who will never leave you." AMG’s website says newspaper ministry is effective "because it enters homes of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and others who might never have an opportunity to talk to a Christian and might even avoid any Christian that crossed their paths." SALVATION ARMY RUSSIAN REGISTRATION RESTORED, MOSCOW UNCERTAIN

The Salvation Army’s Russian national registration, uncertain for over a year, has been restored. However, the organization remains unregistered in the city of Moscow with a local court ban on its activities. Although Salvation Army daily charitable activities have not been interrupted by the ban, local Jehovah’s Witnesses, who are under a similar ban, have had worship services interrupted by police. According to Forum 18, the uncertainty about the registration stems from parts of the organization’s charter not conforming to federal legislation and that the Salvation Army's headquarters are situated outside the Russian Federation. Despite this, Salvation Army activities in the city of Rostov-on-Don, 700 miles south of Moscow, are unimpeded. (Forum 18 News)

* HCJB World Radio reaches across Russia with a variety of radio ministries. The mission began sending gospel broadcasts across the country via shortwave in 1941, first from Quito, Ecuador, and in recent years from the U.K. In the early 1990s the ministry began "planting" local radio ministries in Russia and now works with partners nationwide. In 2000 HCJB World Radio helped launch New Life Radio, the first Christian Russian satellite radio network. More than 63 downlinks have been placed in more than 42 cities across Russia and neighboring countries.
