Jih světa hlavním dějištěm distribuce Biblí a literatury.
„Doba kdy 70% světové evangelijní populace bude žít v jižních oblastech – v Latinské Americe, Africe, Číně a Jižní Asii není příliš vzdálená.

EVANGELIST’S WIFE, RUTH BELL GRAHAM DIES AT AGE 87

Sources: Billy Graham Evangelical Association, Christian Newswire

Mrs. Ruth Bell Graham, beloved wife of world-renowned evangelist Billy Graham, died at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at her home at Little Piney Cove in Montreat, North Carolina, surrounded by her husband and all five children. She was 87. Dates and times for a family-only interment ceremony and a public memorial service will be released when available.

“Ruth was my life partner, and we were called by God as a team,” Mr. Graham said of his life-long marriage and ministry partner. “No one else could have borne the load that she carried. She was a vital and integral part of our ministry, and my work through the years would have been impossible without her encouragement and support.”

Ruth Bell was born June 10, 1920, in Qingjiang, Kiangsu, China. The daughter of medical missionaries, she attended high school in Pyongyang, (now North) Korea. She first came to the United States at the age of 7, while her parents were on furlough. She returned to the U.S. at the age of 17 to attend Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. Shortly after his arrival on campus, she was introduced to “Preacher,” the nickname other students gave Billy Graham. They were married in August, 1943, following their June graduation together.

After her upbringing in China and high school experience in Korea, she continued to have a burden for the people of Asia. She encouraged her husband to visit and later accompanied him during his historic visits to the People’s Republic of China.

Mrs. Graham’s significant role in Mr. Graham’s ministry was recognized in 1996, when they were jointly awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in a special ceremony in the Capital Rotunda in Washington. Franklin Graham, the eldest son, spoke of Mrs. Graham’s importance to Billy Graham’s achievements saying, “My father would not have been what he is today if it wasn’t for my mother.”

Mr. Graham confirmed that his wife's final resting place will be at the foot of a cross-shaped walkway in the Prayer Garden on the grounds of the recently dedicated library bearing his name adjacent to his ministry headquarters in Charlotte. Earlier this year the Grahams agreed together that they would be buried side-by-side at the Library, a decision made by the two of them alone.

Ruth Graham has been in frail health since suffering spinal meningitis in 1995. That was exacerbated by a degenerative back condition that began in 1974, causing chronic back pain for many years and leaving her bedridden or wheelchair-bound since the late 1990s.

Mrs. Graham is survived by her husband Billy: daughters, Virginia, Anne Morrow, and Ruth Bell; sons William Franklin, III, and Nelson Edman; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

ZIMBABWE PASTORS ARRESTED FOR GIVING CANDY, TOYS TO CHILDREN

Source: Assist News Service
Three pastors were arrested in Masvingo, Zimbabwe by the country’s Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) for distributing toys and sweets to children. Rev. Sonykis Chimbuya, Pastor Peter Bondai and Pastor Mugondi were detained and interrogated by state security agents for distributing playing and eating materials to the children on Sunday, June 10, according to Salem Voice Ministries (SVM) News Service. The arrests follow a warning last month from President Robert Mugabe telling church leaders to steer clear of politics after Catholic bishops denounced the Zimbabwean government over its human rights record. SVM says the case highlights deep levels of paranoia in government as the CIO agents accused the pastors of distributing campaign materials of Zimbabwe’s largest political opposition party. Pastor Peter Bondai and Mugondi were released after they were interrogated for more than three hours while Pastor Chimbuya was kidnapped and dumped along the Masvingo-Great Zimbabwe highway hours after his arrest, SVM reported. “We are living in constant fear after the harassment at the hands of the CIO agents,” Chimbuya said to Paul Ciniraj, the Director of the Salem Voice Ministries (SVM) News Service by telephone.

IRAQI PRIEST STILL MISSING MORE THAN A WEEK AFTER BAGHDAD KIDNAPPING

Source: Compass Direct News

Iraqi church leaders continue to hope for the release of a priest kidnapped on Wednesday, June 6. Fr. Hani Abdel Ahad and four young men from his church were kidnapped while traveling from his Divine Wisdom parish to the city’s minor seminary, both in northeastern Baghdad’s Suleikh neighborhood. Ahad was transporting personal belongings with the help of young men from his church when they were kidnapped, a church source said. The four young men were released the following day. Church leaders said they believe Ahad is alive but declined to disclose what, if any, efforts were being made to secure the missing priest’s release. Fr. Bashar Warda, rector of St. Peter’s Seminary in Erbil, said he hoped Christians around the world would continue praying for Ahad’s freedom. “Christians are facing a more and more difficult time,” Warda commented. The priest said that a church committee had documented more than 1,000 Christian families, mostly from southern Baghdad, who have recently been directly or indirectly threatened by armed groups as part of a “campaign” to rid several neighborhoods of their Christian populations. Ahad is the seventh Chaldean priest known to have been kidnapped within the past year.

PRESIDENT BUSH PRAISES, THANKS SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION

Sources: OneNewsNow.com, Baptist Press
President George W. Bush thanked Southern Baptists for their Christian witness, defense of liberty, and commitment to building a culture of life during a speech via satellite to more than 8,500 Baptists on Wednesday, June 13, the final day of the 2007 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting. His nine-minute speech from the White House was interrupted several times by applause. “I appreciate your many good works that make our nation a stronger and more hopeful place,” Bush said. “You've contributed millions of dollars to fight world hunger and logged countless hours in disaster relief and rebuilding. Every day Southern Baptists are giving back to their communities and ministering to those in need.” The president also spoke of HIV-AIDS prevention and treatment in poor nations worldwide, specifically thanking Southern Baptists for relief efforts in Darfur. “For too long, the people of Darfur have suffered at the hands of a government that is complicit in the bombing, rape, and murder of innocent civilians,” said Bush. “People of Darfur are crying out for our help, and the Southern Baptists and the United States will not turn away, because we believe that what matters overseas matters here at home.”

GLOBAL SOUTH TO BE MAIN FOCUS FOR BIBLE AND LITERATURE DISTRIBUTION

Source: Mission News Network
The International Bible Society (now known as IBS-STL after merging with Send the Light) is stepping up their effort to help Bible and literature distribution in the global south. According to Steve Johnson, the organization's Global Publisher, these are strategic areas because of a shift in the global Christian community. “In the not too distant future there may be as much as 70-percent of the world's evangelical population living in the global south in places like Latin America, Africa, China and South Asia. As a result, what we're seeing is the growing need for Scriptures and Christian literature among a community of Christians around the world that doesn't have access to it.” Johnson said, “Our emphasis is going to be on increasing the number of translations and increasing the speed with which those translations get done so that the Word of God can get into the hands of people who are not native non-English speakers. Right now we have more than 50 translations in process.” However, print translation won't be their only focus. “Some people would claim that as much as 70-percent of the people in the global south is functionally illiterate. So, we've got to start being aggressive in producing product[s] that exist in audio format, visual format, multi-media, making the Word of God as accessible as it can be in any culture, regardless of their ability to read.”
