Na Šalomounových ostrovech vychází překlad Bible v pidžin |

| Nová Bible v pidžin se dostane na pulty knihkupců na Šalomounových ostrovech v neděli 6. července. Bude to největší událost Roku Bible vyhlášeného vládou Šalomounových ostrovů. Vydání Bible také souvisí s oslavami dvaceti let nezávislosti. Překladem vrcholí 14letý projekt zaštítěný Solomon Islands Translation Advisory (SITA), která přeložila stovky stránek knih Starého Zákona a provedla revizi starších překladů Nového zákona. Georgina Sogote, členka SITA řekla, že vydání „demonstruje odhodlání církví v zemi pracovat společně a současně potvrzuje, že Šalomounovy ostrovy jsou skutečně křesťanskou zemí.“ Pidžinizovanou angličtinou mluví na Šalomounových ostrovech asi |

Uzbecký protestant zadržen, čtyři baptisté vězněni 10 dnů |

| Jandos Kuandikov, protestant z oblasti Karakalpastan v severozápadním Uzbekistánu (střední Asie) byl v neděli 14. června uvězněn a zůstává ve vazbě až do soudního řízení. Obviněn je z terorizmu. Kuandikov byl uvězněn po policejní prohlídce svého domu, kam policisté vnikli pod záminkou kontroly osob. Když Kuandikov chtěl vidět jejich služební průkazy, začali požadovat písemné prohlášení celé rodiny, že se v domě nekonají bohoslužebná shromáždění, což rodina odmítla. Policie pak prohledala celý dům, přičemž vyrazila dveře pokoje, kde ze zabarikádovala Kuandikova manželka a většina rodiny. Policie zabavila knihy, zápisníky, videokazety, počítače a Kuandikův pas. Jeho a další členy rodiny převezli na policejní stanici k výslechu a Kuandikova uvěznili. Mezitím byli čtyři členové Friendship Baptist Church - Natalia Ogaj, Filip Kim, Dimitrij Kim a Nurlan Tolebajev – zadrženi ve sborové nemovitosti ve vesnici Ahmad Jassavi v oblasti Taškentu. Severní Korea sice zmizela ze seznamu teroristických zemí, pronásledování ale zůstává |

| Severní Korea byla nedávno vyškrtnuta ze seznamu zemí podporujících terorismus, protože předala seznam svých jaderných zařízení Číně a souhlasila se slavnostním odstřelem chladicí věže svého hlavního reaktoru. Zdálo by se, že je to dobrá novinka, ale kritikové nejsou přesvědčeni, že se zmírní i útlak věřících. „Severní Korea nás již mnohokrát oklamala a rozhodně nepatří k zemím, které jednají čestně,“ řekl Jeff King, prezident International Christian Concern. Křesťané s Severní Koreji neuvěřitelně trpí. Jste-li křesťan a chytnou vás s Biblí, do vězení půjdou tři generace vaší rodiny. To znamená že vy, vaše děti a vaši rodiče všichni půjdete do vězení.“ Podle Kinga jsou křesťané biti, mučeni a popravováni. Je velmi obtížné být v Severní Koreji křesťanem. Přesto zbytek církve zůstává. „Je to jednou z nejutajenějších míst, se kterými přicházíme do styku, takže raději ani neříkáme, co tam děláme. Ale dostávají se tam Bible. Církev tam je, což zní neuvěřitelně. Tito věřící zaplatí nejvyšší cenu, jsou-li chyceni. Potřebují naše modlitby, potřebují naši pomoc.“ Zdroj: Mission Network News | |

SOLOMON ISLANDS TO LAUNCH PIDGIN-LANGUAGE BIBLE TRANSLATION Source: Adventist Press Services A new Pidgin-language Bible will be launched in the Solomon Islands on Sunday, July 6. The launch of the translation will be the biggest event in the 2008 Year of the Bible, declared by the Solomon’s government. The launch of the new Bible coincides with the nation’s 20th independence celebrations. The translation culminates a 14-year-long project carried out by the Solomon Islands Translation Advisory (SITA) which translated hundreds of pages from the book of the Old Testament and revised an outdated translation of the New Testament. Georgina Sogote, a member of SITA, said the launch “demonstrates the commitment churches in the country have to work together and also shows that Solomon Islands is truly a Christian country.” Spoken by about 350,000 people, or 72 percent of the population, Solomons Pidgin is one of the largest of the 69 languages used in the 16 scattered island communities that make up the Solomon Islands. It is not an official language, however, and its speakers have only had access to the New Testament since 1993. UZBEKISTAN PROTESTANT DETAINED, 4 BAPTISTS JAILED FOR 10 DAYS Source: Forum 18 News Service Jandos Kuandikov, a Protestant from the Karakalpakstan region northwestern Uzbekistan, a nation in Central Asia, was arrested on Saturday, June 14, and remains in detention before facing criminal trial on terrorism charges. Kuandikov was arrested after police entered his home, claiming to be conducting an identity check. When he asked police to show documents authorizing the identity check, they demanded that the family write statements confirming that no religious meeting was taking place at the house, but the family refused. The police then threatened to search the whole house and break down the door to the room where Kuandikov’s wife and most of his family had barricaded themselves. Police confiscated books, notebooks, videocassettes, computers and Kuandikov’s passport. He and several other family members were taken to the police station for questioning, and Kuandikov was arrested. Meanwhile, four members of the Friendship Baptist Church -- Natalya Ogai, Filipp Kim, Dmitri Kim and Nurlan Tolebaev -- were detained on church property in the village of Ahmad Yassavi in the Tashkent region. They were fined and sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment because of their peaceful religious activities. NORTH KOREA OFF TERROR LIST, BUT PERSECUTION CONTINUES Source: Mission Network News North Korea was recently removed from the U.S. terrorism blacklist after the country handed over a list of its nuclear facilities to China and agreed to ceremonially blow up a cooling plant at its main reactor. While this appears to be good news, critics aren’t convinced that it will take the pressure off believers. “North Korea has a history of fooling us, and this is not an honest broker we’re dealing with,” said Jeff King, president of International Christian Concern. “North Korean Christians suffer incredibly. If you’re a Christian and you’re caught with a Bible, three generations can be put into prison. So you would be put in prison, your children would be put in prison and your parents would be put in prison.” King says Christians are also beaten, tortured and executed. Even though it’s difficult being a Christian in North Korea, a remnant church remains. “It’s one of the most secretive places we deal in, so we tend not to say what we’re doing there. But there are Bibles going in. There is a church there. That’s the incredible thing. These believers will pay the ultimate cost if they’re caught. But they need our prayers.
