Hlásí to křesťanští pozorovatelé.

Byly drženy v samotkách a „dlouhé hodiny vyslýchány se zavázanýma očima“ a podrobovány jiným formám špatného zacházení v teheránské věznici Evin.

Zdroj: BosNews Life

PASSENGER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES 10 DAYS AFTER PLANE CRASHES IN KENYA

Source: Mission Network News
Ten days after the tragic AIM AIR crash near the Nairobi Wilson Airport, 33-year-old passenger Ryan Williams of North Carolina died of his injuries. Williams, a mechanic with AIM AIR, was flown to South Africa last week to be treated for severe burns. He is survived by his wife, Dawn, and four children.

The pilot of the aircraft, 35-year-old Frank Toews, did not survive the crash on Saturday, Aug. 1. Two other passengers are suffering from broken bones, minor burns, cuts and bruises but are expected to make a full recovery.

“Please pray in particular for Dawn and her four children as they grieve, that the Lord would sustain and strengthen them through His Word and by His power and grace as we continue to remember Tiffany [the pilot’s wife] and her four children,” said AIM Associate International Director Ian Campbell.

AIM has set up memorial funds for the families of both men. “Both of these funds are set up, first of all, to defray the huge expenses that surround events like this. And then if there’s anything left over, the widows of each of these men will appoint the remainder of these funds for an AIM project that they are interested in,” said AIM’s Ted Barnett.

The cause of the crash is still unknown. AIM AIR voluntarily grounded its pilots and aircraft to help facilitate the investigation. AIM AIR is also working closely with Kenya Aviation Authorities which is conducting its own investigation.

AIM AIR, part of the larger ministry of Africa Inland Mission, utilizes aviation to serve and sustain hundreds of missionaries and ministries throughout eight countries in East and Central Africa.

RADIO MINISTRY HELPS TACKLE HIV/AIDS EPIDEMIC IN RUSSIA

Source: Tear Fund
Radio shows supported by Tearfund are helping to break down ignorance and prejudice about HIV/AIDS in Russia where one of Europe’s biggest HIV epidemics is raging. More than 940,000 people--mainly drug users--are living with HIV. Radio Teos broadcasts weekly across Russia about HIV issues such as prevention and healthcare. Reaction to the broadcasts suggests they are highly valued by many listeners. A 28-year-old who had divorced her HIV-diagnosed husband began listening and became more knowledgeable and less afraid of HIV. The woman, Evgeniya, then contacted her husband and learned he had been infected during a blood transfusion. Eventually they were reunited. “Because of Radio Teos I now understand how I can love my husband and support him,” she said. A mother from Moscow said her drug addict son, Sergey, listened to testimonies of people who quit drugs and began their HIV treatment through church-sponsored programs. “He accepted Christ and decided to quit drugs,” she said. “He entered rehab and is now free from drugs.”

* HCJB Global Voice reaches across Russia with a variety of radio ministries. The mission began sending gospel broadcasts across the country via shortwave in 1941, first from Quito, Ecuador, and in recent years from the U.K. In the early 1990s the ministry began “planting” local radio ministries in Russia and now works with partners nationwide. In 2000 HCJB Global Voice helped launch New Life Radio, the first Christian Russian satellite radio network. More than 76 downlinks have been placed in more than 46 cities across Russia and neighboring countries.

UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR HOPES TO START BIBLE SCHOOL IN KURDISTAN

Source: Assist News Service
Professor Laura (not her real name), has taken a year off from her responsibilities at a university to start a Bible school in Kurdistan, an area inhabited mainly by Kurds covering parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Azerbaijan. Laura and 20 Christian teachers, leaders and pastors, along with other Kurdish supporters, traveled to the area to help launch the endeavor with a series of meetings with many local political and religious leaders and several conference events. “The Kurds are a nominally Muslim population at this time,” she said. “The entire culture is repulsed at radical Islam because of what it did to them historically.” Laura added that “many” Christians in Kurdistan have no opportunity to learn about their historic faith. “The Kurds are believed to be the descendants of the ancient Medes who are mentioned throughout the Old Testament and in Acts,” she said. “When Daniel was in the lion’s den, King Darius of Babylon, who was worried for him, was a Mede.” Laura said that in early church history the Kurds were Christian until the 7th century when most were forced to convert to Islam. The leading Kurdish author, Mehrdad R. Izady, wrote, “By the early 5th century the Kurdish royal house of Adiabene had converted from Judaism to Christianity.”

CHICK-FIL-A LAUNCHES PARTNERSHIP WITH LIVING WATER INTERNATIONAL

Sources: Assist News Service, Life Water International
A fast-food outlet and a ministry providing fresh drinking water have begun a unusual partnership. Chick-Fil-A in Pearland, Texas, and Living Water International (LWI) have begun the “PLUS $ONE” campaign in which restaurant customers are invited to add $1 to their order to fund water projects through LWI. The impact reaches far beyond those who add $1 to their order. “The Chick-Fil-A staff has been personally impacted as well,” said LWI’s Brian Baca. “Many of them are high school and college students who are hearing about the water crisis for the first time and becoming advocates for the thirsty.” He said after the project’s launch, the excitement is growing.

CHILDREN’S HOME IN PHILIPPINES USES AUDIO BIBLES IN TAGALOG LANGUAGE

Source: Mission Network News
With audio Bible recordings called “Proclaimers,” a favorite among Filipino children at Faith, Hope and Love (FHL) Kids’ Ranch, the cry of “Turn on the Proclaimer!” is heard if their caretaker forgets to turn on the audio. The recordings were sent last year by Faith Comes by Hearing which initiated programs in the Tagalog language in 2006. Since then the ministry has distributed 5,970 audio Bibles. Mark was 7 years old when he first came to the children’s home. He still remembers the feeling of laying his head on a pillow for the first time. It was a lot softer than the pieces of cardboard and drainage pipes where he usually slept! Mark came to the facility because he had been rescued from living on the streets. In the Philippines, about 2 million children live on the streets. Constantly on the move, they constantly face threats of rape, abuse and murder. The Lamar family established FHL. in 2004 to give abandoned, abused, neglected and orphaned children a second chance at life. Forty children now live at the home.

MINISTRY POSTS CREATIVE CLIPS ON YOUTUBE TO PRESENT THE GOSPEL

Source: Christian Newswire
With media coverage of recent celebrity deaths, Christian TV co-host Ray Comfort believes that Christians should present the gospel in that context. “When a celebrity dies the whole world is reminded that each of us has an appointment we don’t want to keep,” Comfort said. “We have the message of everlasting life, so why should we hesitate to share it with a dying world?” Upon Michael Jackson’s death, Comfort and a cameraman interviewed people in Hollywood on where they thought Jackson was spending eternity. “I also asked them if his untimely death made them think about their own mortality,” Comfort explained. “Many said that it did.” The interview segments were released as a YouTube video, called “Michael Jackson’s REAL Cause of Death,” that presents the gospel in a creative fashion, receiving more than 100,000 views. Comfort’s ministry has more than 100 video clips on its YouTube channel, sparking more than 3 million views.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW: TWITTER PRAYERS STUFFED INTO WESTERN WALL

Sources: Haaretz.com, CBN News, Ministry Today, Assist News Service
If you thought taking prayer requests via e-mail made things easy for your congregation, you’ve got nothing on Alon Nil. An Israeli, Nil recently launched a non-profit service that allows people to place their prayers in Jerusalem’s Western Wall--via Twitter. Nil created the service, which is available to people of all faiths, as a way to connect people with the Jewish culture. Using the Twitter account @thekotel, individuals can tweet a prayer (no more than 140 characters). Nil then prints it on a small piece of paper and stuffs it into the cracks of the prayer site--also known as the the Kotel and the Wailing Wall--believed to be the place closest to the Holy of Holies in the second temple. The 25-year-old economist said in three weeks he has received hundreds of electronic prayers. “I don’t see the project as something religious but as something cultural with an affiliation to Judaism,” Nil said.

DEATH TOLL CLIMBS IN ATTACK BY ISLAMIC SECT IN NIGERIA

Source: Compass Direct News
With 12 Christians, including three pastors, confirmed killed in rioting ignited by an Islamic sect opposed to Western education, the Christian community in northern Nigeria’s Borno state is still counting its losses. The rioting, instigated by an Islamic extremist sect known as Boko Haram, left hundreds of people dead. “We are still taking inventory of how the crisis affected our members, but so far we have confirmed some of the Christians killed and churches burnt,” said Samuel Salifu, national secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria. Rampaging members of the sect burned 20 churches before police captured and killed Boko Haram’s leader, Mohammed Yusuf. Police say Yusuf was killed “while trying to escape,” but a federal government panel is investigating allegations that security agents executed him after arresting him alive in his hideout.

JAILED IRANIAN WOMEN REFUSE COURT PRESSURE TO ‘DENY CHRIST’

Source: BosNews Life
Two young Iranian women who may face the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity have told a court that they will not abandon their faith in Christ, despite harsh treatment in one of Iran’s most notorious prisons, Christian trial observers said.

On Sunday, Aug. 9, Maryam Rustampoor, 27, and Marzieh Amirizadeh, 30, appeared before a “revolutionary court” in Tehran where they were pressured to return to Islam, according to well-informed Christians linked to Elam Ministries, a group supporting Iran’s growing church movement. “Though great pressure was put on them, both women declared that they would not deny their faith,” the Christians said.

Both women, who reportedly suffer health problems, were detained on March 5 for converting to Christianity. They endured solitary confinement, interrogations “for many hours while blindfolded” and other mistreatment in Tehran’s Evin prison. During Sunday’s court hearing the prosecution reportedly asked the two women if they were still Christians. “We love Jesus,” and “Yes, we are Christians,” they were overheard answering repeated questions.

Asked whether they “were Muslims and now have become Christians,” the women reportedly replied, “We were born in Muslim families, but we were not Muslims.” They also said they had “no regrets,” despite their imprisonment. It was not clear if and when a judge will give a verdict in the case, which has been monitored around the world. Under Iran’s strict apostasy laws, any Muslim who leaves Islam can face the death penalty. However in what is seen as a positive development, the women have been allowed to be represented by a lawyer, for the first time since their detention earlier this year, observers said.
